The one event that I was blessed to have learn about was what happen
February 3, 1943 There were Four Chaplains George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode Clark V. Poling, John P. Washington. Such an extraordinary act of heroism occurred while in the icy waters off Greenland after the U.S. Army transport ship Dorchester was hit by a German torpedo and began to sink rapidly. Surprisingly there were not enough life jackets, four U.S. Army chaplains on board removed theirs, handed them to frightened younger soldiers, and chose to go down with the ship while praying. 902 was abord the Dorchester.
