Not everyone is blessed to have all they desire in this world. There are a lot of things that the world has to offer, and all we do is wish we had all the fancy things in life.
With this mentality, many have been discontented with life, and they die with this discontent. It brings to mind the story of my father who was always discontent because his friends had certain things in their lives that he lacked.
This drove him to do unimaginable things just to be able to afford the finer things in life. That story did not end well. However, in all the struggles he went through, I learned that he felt he was poor, not because he lacked the necessities of life but because he was never content with what he had.
I picked up my life’s lesson from this because I understood that content is wealth untold.
Benjamin Franklin could not have said it any better when he said,
“Content makes poor men rich; discontent makes rich men poor.”
Learn To Be Content
“He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature.”
― Socrates
This is the undeniable truth. When you are content with what you have which may seem little, that is the real wealth bestowed on you by Mother Nature. Many people enjoy life because they have discovered this secret.
When you are content, you are conscious of what you have, and you appreciate and value it.
You do not let the lack of something determine the value you place on what you have. Content is your riches, and it is what distinguishes you from a poor man.
Poverty is not in what you lack but is a state of mind. When content becomes a part of you, your mentality and character, poverty seizes to be an issue.
Do Not Be Content in Mediocrity
Being content requires that you learn to be content whether you are in want or you are rich because it is ultimately what you need.
Remember, content is wealth untold. However, this does not mean that you should be content in mediocrity. Always have a vision of making things better because you can always be better.
Be Aware of Your Advantage
Everyone has an advantage in this life. Content is your riches, and when you realize this is your advantage, no one can shake you with material things.
You will be comfortable with what you have and wanting more for yourself will be for self-improvement.
You will not find yourself competing with anyone but yourself. We ought to always make ourselves better than we were yesterday. With content as your advantage, you will only be competing with yourself.
Conclusion
Content is your wealth and it has been given to you by nature. With it, you will not be conscious of what is missing in your life but what is there. This is the key to your happiness in life.
Being content frees you from the prison of lack and poverty, and it places you at a place where you can freely think about improving yourself without any pressures of life.
It is a good feeling to be content. Learn to look at what you have and appreciate it rather than concentrating on what you do not have and being pressured into obtaining it.
Always remember that content is your riches!
