We all need the freedom to express ourselves and excel in all aspects of our life. But we must remember that to get freedom, one need to give freedom to others. Once Dwight D. Eisenhower opined – “To be true to one’s own freedom is, in essence, to honor and respect the freedom of all others.” Of course, when you give freedom to others means you respect their values and consequently you get freedom from them.
The Mechanism of Give Freedom to Get Freedom – Is there absolute freedom?
It is easy to assume that freedom of expression means you get to say whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you are. Unfortunately, there is a thin line between freedom of expression and abuse of freedom. It may be your right to say what you feel like saying but if your words or actions infringe on the rights of others, it ceases to be freedom of expression. It instead becomes an abuse of freedom. Therefore you have to recognize the space for your freedom and others freedom. Then only you can get freedom in its full form. You have to give freedom in all aspects of life to others, as much as you wish to get freedom in different aspects of life.
Transform Fear into Freedom and Independence
Whatever you fear holds you back. It makes you its slave. It limits your potential and keeps you away from reaching your goals. Only when you overcome your fears will you be able to face life with courage and determination. Conquer fear so you can embrace life and experience absolute freedom. Your absolute freedom is possible when your surrounding has freedom. Hence, to get freedom, you have to give freedom the same way we love each other.
We often hesitate to give freedom to others as we perceive some kind of fear. We feel to give freedom to others means making them more powerful. But we should understand that if we can transform the fear that exists between us then we can experience freedom and independence. So the bottom line is to get freedom, you have to get away with fear which is possible only when you give freedom to others around you.
So, it is very important to get freedom from others. To get freedom means to get respect, love and reorganization. We have to remember that get freedom and give freedom are two sides of the same coin. They are complementary to each other.
True Independence Comes with Financial Freedom
Money may not be the source of happiness but it does offer some freedom. You may need the freedom to travel, to start a business, to make investments and to turn your dreams to reality. But to get freedom financial security is required. Sometimes these freedoms are curtailed if one is not financially secure. Your financial independence means less dependence on others. Similarly, you have to facilitate and give freedom to your children or whoever related to you so that they get financial freedom.
Freedom Earned at a Price
What would you do to earn your freedom? Do you have that friend you have to be cautious around because you feel you cannot say what you feel without offending him or her? You can get freedom, but it can only be earned at a price. Freedom requires a sacrifice. What sacrifices will you be making today so you can get freedom tomorrow? It could be done when you give freedom to others. Many a time, your freedom is the freedom of others and vice-versa.
The Power of Freedom
We all have goals in our life. We want to get established in our lives. We wish to get freedom and power to pursue our creative work. We want respect from our peers and recognition for our accomplishments. We do all these not for show-off, but to realize our personal potential. It is quite possible when we give freedom to others.
What does the freedom you have done for you? What wouldn’t you be able to do without the freedom that you have?
