There are so many theories about beauty and how people perceive it.

Beauty in general is defined as qualities of something that are very aesthetically pleasing. Most often we say to people that they are beautiful or we compliment something they own as beautiful. But it goes beyond that.

In this article let us break down beauty in life and see how one can experience the art of beauty in day to day life.

Common Terms Associated with Love of Beauty

To understand beauty, it is essential to understand some common terms associated with it.

Love of Beauty

Love of beauty refers to someone’s taste in things. We might have heard people say, it’s not to my taste. What do they mean?

Taste refers to one’s liking and choices they make, the aesthetics they like and how they use it in their life.

Aesthetics

It is defined as a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty. Your aesthetics will reveal a lot about your style and choices.

Some people like to feel beautiful with the minimal quantity of things in their home but some people like to adorn their house with too many things and it is their aesthetic choice.

This has a direct connection with your thoughts and behavior. This also contributes to one’s beauty in life.

Theories Associated with Beauty

Throughout the ages, there have been conflicts about the way beauty has been seen.

Do you know beauty has been seen as both subjective and objective? In the world of philosophy, Socrates, Plato and Aristotle saw beauty in different lights.

To Socrates, beauty is free flowing, it does not have to be in a particular shape and size. He found beauty in everything like different colors, shapes, objects and even musical notes.

Plato says it is structured and subjected to a proper object with a specified measure. It was him who said, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder.

“Beauty is not caused, it is.”
― Emily Dickinson

The Art of Beauty in Life

While so many theories and thoughts about beauty might sound confusing, it is good to remember that the art of beauty in life is all about creating and experiencing the true feeling of beauty within that reflects on the outer side.

This takes me to a question I often wonder about – What makes life beautiful?

Is it the luxuries that one can have or the people they are with?

Is it the success that one can achieve or the milestones people create?

Is it the simple things that make us happy or the kindness we extend to others?

Whatever we choose, it might not be the same. All of us have different tastes and thus the results differ too.

“When I think of art I think of beauty. Beauty is the mystery of life. It is not in the eye, it is in the mind. In our minds, there is awareness of perfection.”
― Agnes Martin

The art of beauty in life must enable you to celebrate life, create standards for things you do and help you to live every moment appreciative of the beauty we are blessed with.

Creation of Beauty

“You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.”
― Osho

Can beauty be created in life? Yes! The art of beauty is that it can be created, felt deep within and can be shared.

To create beauty is to create love, art and being there, living every moment of it.

3 keynotes for the creation of beauty:

    • Bloom internally like a flower that reflects your beauty outside.
    • Face challenges with inner strength, gracefully to create your inner beauty.
    • Create a space where everything is silent and explore the unrestricted possibilities of creating abundant beauty with the purity of the moment.

How to Experience Beauty in Life?

We have come to the most important question of this article.

How to experience beauty in life?

There is no one set of default answers for this question as we already saw how beauty is perceived by different people differently. However, I hope these answers truly inspire you to create and experience beauty in life.

    • Start with small things!

The little things of life hold the power to create beauty in our lives. For example, a little thank you will make its receiver so happy, making the moment so beautiful.

Here’s a heartwarming story of a little girl who sent a bottle filled with colors and some glitter (inspired by the dream in a bottle from his iconic book The BFG) to Roald Dahl and his thank you for the same.

Dear Amy,

I must write a special letter and thank you for the dream in the bottle. You are the first person in the world who has sent me one of these and it intrigued me very much. I also liked the dream. Tonight I shall go down to the village and blow it through the bedroom window of some sleeping child and see if it works.

Seva Cafe in Ahmedabad is one fine example for people who follow the gift economy and pay it forward scheme. It allows people to take services and pay for whatever they can.

    • Give love and be open to receiving love without resentment

Love is like a magic power that keeps human hearts alive. When your hearts are filled with true love, letting go and forgiveness becomes easy. A happy heart filled with love makes life beautiful for oneself and others.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
― 1 Corinthians 13, Holy Bible

    • Gratitude helps you to experience the love of beauty

There was a phase in my life where everything seemed so impossible.  No matter how much effort I put into something it didn’t materialize. I had everything but I was always upset. Nothing made me truly happy.

I kept believing that something is missing until one day a close friend of mine took the effort to call me over the phone and spoke with me for hours to make me realise one simple yet most important thing.

To be grateful for what I have already. When I began my journey from ‘I don’t have’ to ‘I am grateful for’ my entire scenario changed. My days became much brighter, joy came in and made my life so beautiful.

The creation of beauty doesn’t only mean internal beauty, it also includes the outer things you add to life like art, nature and much more.

If makeup makes you feel beautiful, make it an art and enjoy it. If a painting helps you to express your feelings, develop a taste for it and enjoy the art of creating beauty in your life.

Conclusion

At the least, the Love of beauty and creation of beauty is in your hands, in your mind and how you perceive it. Make it worth it. Make it beautiful. Experience the art of beauty in life.
