Never Put a Limit on Your Dreams
“You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.” ― Michael Phelps

It costs you nothing to Dream. No law of the land can limit how much you want to dream either. There are no price tags, taxes or fees payable, be it for dreaming at night or indulging in day dreaming.

In fact, many day dreamers have galloped down the road to success faster and more often than those who didn’t. This is how dreaming helps you to get ahead in life.

It’s a Compass

When you dream of achieving something, you are actually setting up a target, goal or aim in life. The loftier your dreams, the more you will be able to motivate yourself to achieve them.

That’s why putting a ceiling on your dreams or even confining them within certain pre-determined parameters  is never advisable. By dreaming, you are only charting your own course in life.

To Limit is to Chain

When you limit your dreams, you are actually undermining yourself without realizing your true potential. Chances are that you have the capability of achieving something very big in life such as discovering the cure for a life-threatening disease or an automobile fuel that costs almost nothing.

If you should confine your dreams to just run-of-the-mill achievements that you think you may have, you are actually suffering from low self-esteem or are afraid of thinking of the big picture.

Take Stock and Look Around

It always pays to conduct an objective Strength-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats (SWOT) self-analysis.

It’s like standing before a mirror and admitting to yourself frankly what you are and what you are capable of.

First, analyze your strengths and areas where further development could be made; look at your motivational factors, interests, financial needs as also your ability to be flexible. Then dream accordingly of what you want to achieve and how you will go about it.

Conduct a Reality Check

Dreaming is fine but needs to be based on some realistic parameters. Absurd dreaming is fantasizing, which in the long run doesn’t work out.

Confine yourself to ground reality first to understand the unavoidable and insurmountable limitations that may arise in your path ahead.

Certain things are simply beyond our control and can’t be helped. Accept that and chart the course ahead accordingly.

Update Skills

A true self analysis also reveals your skill levels, deficiencies if any, and areas that need improvement.

Part of your dream, therefore, should also be to develop yourself and bring yourself up to date with the latest trends so that you don’t lose out to others.

Never Allow Failure to be a Deterrent

In the course of any life, failures are inevitable. Your dreams to do something great in life may end in utter failure. However, that should never, ever put you off from dreaming again.

Never confine yourself to the failure aspect but put it behind you as a closed chapter and move on.

Most great discoverers like Newton, Einstein, Alexander Fleming and Goodyear, to name a few did just that.

Einstein, it is believed was almost driven to suicide because of his initial failures. But that couldn’t stop him from becoming the greatest scientist of the twentieth century. Just because he dared to dream on.

Conclusion

If the universe is believed to be infinite, there can be no ceiling on dreaming either. It all depends on how you look at life and what you ultimately make of it.

The final result, however, is greatly dependant on your hopes, aspirations, aims, goals and missions in life and how you go about turning them into reality.

So, dream on for as long and as much as you like. Chances are those that are without a limit will actually come true.
