What do you think the most important thing a leader must follow? It is working as goal oriented, avoiding distractions that may become stumbling blocks to your aims.
That is why Groucho Marx says “Only one man in a thousand is a leader of men – the other 999 follow women.”
It is true that only few men in thousand have correct discipline not to be distracted by anything, either of his personal goal or own affairs. He avoids pleasing of himself but works for the society.
However, he puts his people’s interest first and country’s up building as his criteria. He will never allow anything that comes on his way to sidetrack his lane from the race.
He identifies them as time-consuming, success stoppers, and avoids anything in the world that makes him slow to finish his race.
Be Leader with Aspire
Nowadays, great leaders are hard to find and measure genuinely.
As a leader, you will need to improve the size of potential around you, bring people collaboratively, make a consistent team and align different talents under one roof to reach and pursue your common goal.
For that, you need to inspire and aspire your followers to focus on common goals.
Be focused by a great ambition, always breathe your aim, stand firm when an obstacle comes your way.
Even if any sudden distraction turns on your way immediately identify your ultimate reach. Develop strong desire to reach your destiny.
Many would like to follow a leader who makes his employees feel as they are an integral part of the solution. And draw them into their cause and lead them through practical steps.
Leaders try to make it everyone’s aim not only theirs. They bring life into their followers inspiring them to fulfill the goal.
Stick To Your Principles
Never forget your principles, as they are always on your way to a street light which helps you to determine your paths, ambitions and sets you free all sorts of damages. These will govern your ways, let you follow and show your ethics in moving ahead.
If you have any strong challenge coming on your way, let your standards and principles decide which is better to do. It will always help you to avoid distractions because your decisions are driven by the benefit of others and morals.
Leaders should leave an example of commitment for employers to follow through.
Ask Yourself Tough Questions
One other way to stop moving towards distractions is asking self-examining questions ourselves. Think of these questions,
- If I do this, will it affect my aim?
- Will my followers appreciate what I am doing?
- How is this going to change my ultimate goal?
- Will this cause not let go spirit in my followers and me?
Focus on the Goal
For example, imagine if a runner gets his toe hurt during the race, then will he able to win or not? It depends on how he thinks.
If he is concentrating on the wound, then he will lose the medal for his opponent. If he focuses on the destination, then he will be a winner despite all odds.
A person can focus on the past-grudges, failures or injustices which were done to him. Sometimes focus comes automatically or by our social choice.
Alternatively, we can imagine the outcome of our work and feel gratitude for the individual who brought us to this state.
Everyone has a choice about where to aim the lens of our attention to reach our goal. However, it is hard to obtain; that is why very few manage to do so.
