What Survives the Test of Time is Your Learning and Education
“Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” ― Albert Einstein

Education is the most valuable resource a human can possess. Schooling and education are two very different things.

We can define education as passing down of knowledge, values, and skills from one generation to another.

Education and learning both have a great impact on a person’s psyche and character.

Learning in school just includes listening to the teacher and doing everything to pass with good grades. Education goes deeper than just collecting facts.

What does Traditional School Teach You?

The school teaches people two things which are moral values and factual teachings. It is up to the individual on how to apply these vast bodies of knowledge into their life.

The old aphorism about memory and schooling is true. We do forget most of the lessons learned in school and college. The only things we retain are morals and ethics.

Our morals and culture help us to differentiate between right and wrong. It prevents us from making biased decisions influenced by any nepotism or discrimination.

The traditional role of schools and colleges is to provide information or tools to help you live life comfortably. But, the present educational system concentrates more on route learning or learning data about unimportant things.

Many students with high academic achievements are a total failure in life. It is because they are excellent when it comes to root learning but, they fail miserably when asked to apply their knowledge in real-life situations.

The Difference Between Education and Learning

The primary difference between education and learning is often not noticed. Education is learned from experience. It is the application of the knowledge learned in school.

Albert Einstein in his own words said that, “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.”

He laid down the importance of education in this statement. What he means is that education is what remains with a person after he has left the institution.

Einstein had a tough time in school. He was a slow learner but, he went on to become one of the greatest scientists of our era.

Education is not merely remembering facts, figures, tables, etc. It means understanding the concepts and applying it in your life.

Education aims to open the mind of a person. It helps imbibes curiosity and promotes logical reasoning.

With education, an individual can be ready to face the world and solve any problems in the future.

Education acts as a liberating force which enables us to distinguish between good and bad. It shapes our mindset up to a large extent.

We tend to think in the same way as our knowledge and experience shape us based on the education we have received.

Learning, on the other hand, is just factual teachings. It involves studying tables, past events, and text most of which is forgotten as soon as you graduate.

Factual pieces of evidence are not the ultimate truth. They may constantly change with time, or they may be incomplete data.

Morals, ethics, and application of knowledge may not be gained by root learning and classroom lessons. Learning is certainly beneficial, but it should not be the end goal of schooling.

Conclusion

The smallest part of education is knowledge. How you apply your knowledge in solving real life problems is important.

You may own many degrees but, you may fail to utilize your knowledge in the real world. In that case, your degrees worth nothing, and your education will be incomplete.

Education can help you secure a job, but would not help you in rising higher in life. It is okay even if you don’t acquire the top grades in school or college.

Try to apply your acquired knowledge in solving problems. Understanding the basics of a subject should be your primary focus when in school.

Parents should push their children to obtain a decent education which would support them throughout their lifetime rather than scoring higher grades.

Irrespective of your age, you are always in the process of learning. Seek education and knowledge.
