As a leader, the thing that is on a continuous demand is your example. You have to be a good model for everyone as many will closely watch and follow their leader. Exemplar itself won’t motivate other; it’s just an aspect of vivid shade of light.
Albert Schweitzer rightly said that, “Example is not the main thing in influencing others. It is the only thing.” Leadership is just taking initiative of an aim. To do this, you need to influence many and make them your followers. Living by standard can compel vast audience like Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King. You need to earn this credibility, title, living as one among the followers. It can be done through influencing others with your lifestyle, exemplary behavior; speeches etc.
Your Example is Your Influence
In general, there are no leader’s only acts of leadership. It involves more of responsibility, maintaining trust, building confidence and working with determination to reach ultimate goal. Granted through the standards you influence, but mostly the way it is used and how effective you do is the most important part. For example, how would you stop one of your friend who is going to commit suicide? You don’t need to kill yourself to show the consequences. But rather you will highlight another’s model and effectively convey the message to him. Apply it gently for him to stop his thinking and change his attitude towards the life. Remember never undermine your example.
People Always Look Up to the Leader for Aid
It is not only showing the genuine concern for the difficulties but also it involves fixing the problems. You should not only care and think about it but rather you should be in ground to solve it and show genuine kindness towards the problem and the affected people. You have the power to do more rather than being only just a model. You can truly lead them, guide them and make them feel comforted in all the situations.
Ask yourself these questions. What example am I conveying them, in my dealings with audience or in my speeches? What am I Aiming at? How am I handling pressure? How good am I at encouraging, motivating, supporting and cherishing those around me?
To influence people, your model itself is not enough. You need to learn to inspire people with results, show people how much you are concerned and devoted for welfare of those who trust you by your words and deeds. Working towards advancing the benefits of people will automatically influence other. But make it aim as it is not the sole thing which will put you on the top of pyramid.
Leaders Inspire People
No one can claim himself as a leader, it is about how one influences other people with his creative thoughts, ideas and deeds. A true leader influences people in every possible ways which is shown in actions rather than sayings. There is a proverb which states that what we do enables us to become great leaders rather than what we say. It is a leader’s responsibility to show in actions before telling his team to display.
Conclusion
Leaders should be exemplar in every situation, either in day to day life or in the extreme times of crisis. I suggest all leaders or the aspiring ones to spend some time with their people. It helps to create positive environment and also the team learns to handle the situation by following leader’s example.
